About

On the edge of The Shire, legendary Tolkien protagonist Frodo Baggins recalls some wisdom provided by his uncle Bilbo:

“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door.  You step into the Road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to.”

For many years now I have been chasing dreams, ideas, and opportunities across the globe.  From waves and great white shark cages in South Africa to mountain peaks and big wilderness across North America and the world, I have positioned myself to get swept off as frequently as possible.  It just so happens that going out of your door isn’t such a dangerous business after all, so long as you are prepared for what the adventure holds.

My passion for travel, wilderness, and adventure has blossomed into a lifestyle that necessitates living in the moment and cherishing the little things.  This same passion has inspired a career path and graduate education fueled by helping others experience the world in socially, culturally, and environmentally respectful ways while expanding their own horizons and pushing comfort zones far from home.

Friends and family have long been encouraging me to consolidate my favorite photos and stories in one place for any interested parties to enjoy.  Swept-Off is here to serve as that platform.  It is my hope that the stories and photographs across this site will serve to motivate the curious, distract those needing an escape, or inspire a new companion for the next grand adventure.
